Dr. Schlesinger joined the UVA Department of Neurological Surgery in 2004, and currently works as a Professor in the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Neurological surgery as a member of the clinical physics faculty. Dr. Schlesinger serves as the primary medical physicist and radiation safety officer at the University Virginia Gamma Knife center, where he assists radiation oncologists and neurosurgeons treat patients with stereotactic radiosurgery for brain tumors and other neurologic conditions. Dr. Schlesinger also serves as the director of the didactic medical physics education course for UVA’s radiation oncology and medical physics residents. Dr. Schlesinger earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1998. His current research interests involves integration of brain connectomics into radiosurgery treatment planning and the use of systems engineering techniques to support procedural quality assurance.
