Dr. Romanelli earned his MD from the University of Naples, Italy, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1994. He’s a certified specialist in Neurosurgery and Child Neurology and Psychiatry. He's fellowship-trained in Functional Neurosurgery and Stereotactic Radiosurgery at Stanford University,
Dr. Romanelli’s clinical research is focused on the treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia, Neuropathic Pain, Spasticity, Epilepsy and Movement Disorders. Deep clinical expertise includes the treatment of Brain and Spinal Tumors as well as functional disorders of the CNS. Dr. Romanelli has been a leading scientist at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF, Grenoble), the largest synchrotron facility in the world. Dr. Romanelli has produced several seminal papers describing the use of synchrotron-generated microbeams for microimaging and for the treatment of functional brain disorders such as epilepsy. Dr. Romanelli had also developed, patented, and tested a variety of wireless brain prostheses, receiving an Award as Pioner of Medicine by the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics. Recent awards include the Best Scientific Presentation Award at the 2022 Radiosurgery Society (RSS) annual meeting and the Leksell-Lunsford Award for the best radiosurgical presentation at 2022 Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS).
