Dr. Albrecht Stroh is a Professor for Physiology and Chair of the Institute of Physiology I, University Hospital Muenster, and at the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research, Mainz, Germany. Dr. Stroh received his PhD from Charité Medical School at Humboldt University Berlin in Experimental Biophysics. He received postdoctoral training at Stanford University, under the mentorship of Dr. Karl Deisseroth, and at the Technical University Munich, under the mentorship of Dr. Arthur Konnerth. Since establishing his own research group, Dr. Stroh strives at investigating the interrelation of spontaneous and sensory-evoked activity of single neurons, and neuronal ensembles, with the (dysregulated) functional thalamo-cortical network in rodents, both under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. For that, he implements all optical and optomagnetic multi-modal imaging and manipulation approaches, such as two and three photon Ca2+ imaging, optic-fiber-based Ca2+ recordings, single cell optogenetics, and functional MRI. Recently, he embarked on the use of radiomodulation for durable rebalancing of cortical networks. Teaming up with clinical scientists, he employs network centered approaches in early-stage models of neurological disorders, aiming at defining neuronal network function as own pathophysiological entity, enabling novel therapeutic strategies, with a focus on brain-state informed interventions. He has been an Associate Editor at the Journal of Neurophysiology since 2020.
